On Saturday, September 3, the match of the 3rd round of the Ukrainian Premier League will take place, in which Metalist 1925 Kharkiv and Vorskla Poltava will play. The game will be held in Kyiv on the field of the NSC Olimpiyskiy, starting at 15:00.
The Kharkiv team started the season with two draws. First, I managed to get hold of one test point in the match against Shakhtar Donetsk. Of course, the Pitmen are far from being the formidable force that they used to be considered to be, but still, the Kharkiv team showed a pretty decent game. One could have counted on three points, but not bad, especially since there were chances of getting nothing at all, so a draw is a natural result for both teams.
In the second round, Kryventsov’s wards didn’t score either, they also didn’t concede and also scored one point. And also against an opponent who had a fairly strong squad back in the winter, but the war crossed everything out. True, Roman Grigorchuk knows his job, so not losing to his team is also a good result. Paradoxically, playing on defense, Metalist 1925 could even win this game if Artem Gabelok converted a penalty.
After the 2nd round, the Kharkiv team are in 8th place in the standings.
After leaving the European Cups, the Poltava team focused on domestic affairs. And things are bad here too. In the first round, Viktor Skrypnyk faced his former team Zorya Lugansk. Apparently, the ex-wards wanted to prove to the coach that he had left them in vain – a confident victory for the Luhansk team with a score of 3:1.
It seemed that it would be easier to score points in the match against Veres. Vorskla scored first and led for a long time, but conceded in the 81st minute. It seemed that the match would end in a draw, but Mikhail Shestakov was against it. Veres’ forward took advantage of Vorskla’s defense mistakes just before the final whistle and brought victory to his team, sending the Poltava team to the bottom of the standings, where they are after the 2nd round with Lviv, Kryvbas, Rukh, Minai and Dynamo as teams that did not score a single point.
Newcomers Ardit, Ennur and Seferi, who have recently joined the team, look pretty good on the field, but they have yet to get used to the realities of Ukrainian football and the new team.
The teams met each other only once – last season, Vorskla at the start held tight in the European Cup zone and did not spare opponents equal in class or weaker – 2:0 with a goal by Chesnakov and an own goal by Tkachuk.
“Metallist 1925”: Mozil – Rudavsky, Kurilo, Bezugly, Shershen, Martynyuk, Remenyuk, Gabelok, Bychek, Rusyn, Boryachuk.
“Vorskla”: Riznyk – Batsula, Yavorsky, Zaikov, Melnychuk, Ardit Toly, Oliynyk, Sklyar, Totre Ennur, Stepaniuk, Sefery.
Forecast for confrontation
“Vorskla”, it seems, is in a psychological hole and will try to escape from where, having won. Metalist 1925 will also want to score three points, but whether they will succeed is an open question. We predict a low pace, an even game and an exchange of goals.
