International Data Corporation IDC statedthat the PC market will shrink by 43.5 million units year-on-year in 2022 and will not return to growth throughout 2023.
IDC believes unit shipments of computers will total 305.3 million units this year, down 12.8% from 2021. Tablet sales will fall to 156.8 million units, or 6.8% year-over-year. Shipments themselves will drop to 462.1 million units, down 10.8% in 2022 compared to 2021.
The market will recover only in 2024, although experts note that the supply of computers and tablets is higher than in pre-pandemic years. Satisfying demand for computers, a weak global economy and inflation are cited as reasons for this decline.
Earlier it was reported that during the second quarter, 72 million computers were shipped, while in the quarter of last year – 82.4 million, which is 12.6% less. It was noted that this is the sharpest decline in the global PC market in nine years.
