The Apple Watch saved the life of a 54-year-old Briton by promptly detecting asymptomatic health problems that caused the man’s heart to stop 138 times in just 48 hours.
Norfolk resident David Last received an Apple Watch as a birthday present in early 2022. After several months of use, the watch began to give him warnings about an abnormally low heart rate – drops to 30 beats per minute were recorded almost 3,000 times.
Last went to the hospital in May and underwent a full MRI scan, and in July he underwent a 48-hour ECG test to find out the cause of his abnormally slow heart rate.
As it turned out, the man had an asymptomatic and life-threatening third-degree heart block. During the 48-hour ECG procedure, his heart stopped 138 times at 10-second intervals. The doctors decided to hospitalize Last and install a pacemaker for him.
Now David Last feels great and talks with admiration about his experience with the Apple Watch.
