In support of its words that its Arc Alchemist graphics are better at ray tracing than comparable NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards, Intel told about the performance of the flagship Arc A770 accelerator in comparison with the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.
According to Intel internal tests, the Arc A770 graphics card in games at a resolution of 1080p and with ray tracing is on average 14% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060. However, in at least four games from the list of tested titles, the NVIDIA solution was still faster.
The GeForce RTX 3060 GPU has 28 RT cores. Intel has not yet announced the official characteristics of the Arc A770. However, presumably, it uses a full version of the ACM-G10 processor with 32 Xe cores and the same number of hardware ray tracing units.
Intel also shared for the first time official performance benchmarks of Arc A-series cards with active Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) temporal image scaling technology. It should be recalled that the company promised to release it “at the beginning of the summer.” Summer is over, autumn has come, but XeSS support has not yet appeared in any game.
Today, the company published data on the performance of XeSS technology, which operates in two modes – “Balance” (Balanced) and “Performance” (Performance). There will be four modes in total. The other two – “Quality” (Quality) and “Maximum quality” (Ultra Quality) – did not participate in the comparison. The “Performance” mode allows in some cases (Hitman 3 and Ghostwire Tokyo) to double the number of frames per second. However, in general, the FPS increase ranges from 49% to 113% compared to the original resolution. In Balance mode, the frame rate increases from 26% to 77%.
As part of the Intel Arc Alchemist architecture, a new type of Thread Sorting Unit cores are used, which are responsible for asynchronous ray tracing. In other words, they help maximize the use of Xe cores by distributing tracing tasks across the graphics pipeline to improve efficiency and performance.
The company also added that support for its ray tracing technology will appear in Gotham Knights, which will be released on October 21st.
I would like to believe that by this time the older Intel video cards will already be on sale.
