The first big fight of the fall of 2022 is Andy Ruiz vs. Luis Ortiz. A showdown for the immediate future and the Mexican’s first more uncomfortable test since the comeback fight that followed a rematch loss to Anthony Joshua.
A wonderful fight between opponents who stylistically can only give shows and knockdowns. Worth watching.
Ruiz has already come back after the defeat, but now the opponent is definitely more difficult than a year ago
The path of Andy Ruiz in boxing is interesting, as is his visual component. To put it mildly, not the most athletic boxer has already boxed with more than one top counterpart. Back in 2014, as Ukrainians know, exactly eight years ago, Andy met with Sergei Lyakhovich. Nothing unusual, but at one time the Belarusian managed to make some noise: then he outboxed Lamon Brewster, won the WBO title, and then flew out of the ring in the last seconds after being hit by Shannon Briggs in a won fight.
After that, Andy bombed different opponents, but they also came across with a name, like the same Ray Austin, who lost to the Mexican already in the fourth round, because he could not continue. But still, he attracted the first big attention when he lost to Joseph Parker. The defeat turned out to be relative. On the one hand, Joseph seemed to be accurate. On the other hand, Andy did enough: he had the initiative, went forward, attacked and hit. For the most part, fans and experts agreed that Ruiz was robbed – he definitely did not lose, and this is at least. Rather, he even won.
After that, there were good victories over Kevin Johnson and former Ukrainian Oleksandr Dimitrenko, but the shot into space of popularity occurred on June 1, 2019. Then the Mexican had a little less than a month to prepare for the battle against Anthony Joshua. At first, Anthony was supposed to fight against Jarrell Miller, but it did not work out – the American failed the doping test. Joshua decided to conquer America against Andy Ruiz, and it didn’t work out for the Briton himself.

It didn’t go everywhere. Anthony let the opponent and his coach hold his belts, smiled and planned for the future, and Andy got ready. In the ring, the British champion walked, played, and after a knockdown, which he created for an opponent, ran into himself. Ruiz had a perfect fight. Motivated, tough, cool and winning.
In revenge, the Mexican fell apart because he did not prepare. All the same, episodically got and beat the opponent. He looked great when they got closer, but lost everything else and returned the titles to Joshua, which are now in the hands of Oleksandr Usyk.
The comeback against Chris Arreola turned out to be good. The Mexicans staged a mahach. Andy was knocked down, but he hit more and worked better in combination. It was not possible to finish off the veteran, although he was on the verge from time to time – Ruiz won by decision of the judges.
The main thing is that this fight is still against a convenient counterpart. Arreola is a small Mexican with a name who loves to fight, so throwing combinations on him, being younger and stronger, is a pleasure.
Luis Ortiz is different. Yes, the Cuban has been around for many years, but lately he is still the same good boxer. In 2019, he also lost for the last time – to Deontay Wilder. In general, the Cuban beat the American. I scored points, sorted it out due to the best boxing. And then he ran into a right-handed shot – it all ended instantly in the seventh round.
The return for Luis was formed: first, Alexander Flores suffered a knockout in the first round, then Charles Martin, who lasted six rounds. Very, very confident, as for a boxer who is 43 and who has been written off for five years already, but he can’t write off in any way.
Who is the favorite of the fight?
Bookmakers have identified a young and mobile boxer as the favorite. You can bet on Andy Ruiz for 1.28. For Luis Ortiz – for 3.50.
In fact, the difference in the coefficients is quite significant. In fact, Andy is a clear favorite, but it is difficult to predict a confident victory for Ruiz due to several factors. The first is the boxing level of the Cuban. Ortiz is not just a veteran. He is a great boxer with a punch and skills that can answer anyone. In addition, Louis is larger. The Cuban is five centimeters taller – his height is 198 cm and has 10 centimeters longer arms – 198 cm.

Andy will be corny difficult to go to the distance. On the other hand, Ruiz is a young, motivated and cool boxer. If he manages to break through to the opponent without losses, then he will be able to torment the veteran with his combinations. The head of the Mexican is not concrete, but if you manage to withstand the hits, then the matter is small.
The Mexican must take his activity and youth. If you manage to force the Cuban to work more actively, you can count on a bright fight and problems for Ortiz. Still, you can’t argue with age.
Andy Ruiz vs. Luis Ortiz will take place on the night of September 4-5 in Los Angeles.
