The Callisto Protocol may receive new modes and DLC after launch, and developer Striking Distance Studios plans to invest in the game as the start of a major, “expandable” franchise.
Speaking at Gamescom 2022, Striking Distance Studios CTO Mark James answered the question about possible DLC for Callisto Protocol in the affirmative:
The game will receive full support and we will invest in DLC. We expect four years of support after release.
When asked what form this support and potential DLC might take; it followed from James’s answer that the specific details are yet to be determined:
We have created a world that can tell different stories, and therefore we can tell those stories either through DLC or through subsequent products. We have left these possibilities open. We like to think of it like a franchise – every developer, when they create a new IP, likes to think of it as an investment in a franchise. Creating a new IP is very expensive, so we always want to try to make the most of it.
It seems that the future of The Callisto Protocol is very bright, which cannot but please players who are already desperate to get into the dark, gloomy world of the game.
James added that the DLC may include “different modes”, some of which may be inspired by “other horror games”. He then gave an example of how he envisions the series going forward: “At the moment we have a linear story mode. We can still tell the whole story about what’s going on in the prison without even touching the linear story.”
