According to Valve, Steam Deck game console users can look forward to at least 5,000 supported games. According to the latest information, the company has tested at least 7,000 projects from Steam for compatibility with its hardware and software, 5,000 of which are recognized as suitable for playing on a portable system.
According to the latest data, the company has awarded the title of “verified” and “playable” to more than 5 thousand games available on the platform. She also confirmed that 2,000 games are “not supported”.
The title of “verified” game receives if it is compatible with Steam Deck without any problems. If there are minor problems or glitches, but the game is definitely playable, it gets the title of “playable”. Those games that Steam Deck does not support are labeled accordingly.
To be approved by Valve, a game must demonstrate solid compatibility with controllers and, when necessary, with an on-screen keyboard. In addition, support for the native Steam Deck resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels is required. It also checks for compatibility with the Proton software used to run Windows games on Steam Deck.
Of course, there are more than 50,000 games on the Steam platform in total, and while official support for 5,000 is already quite a lot, the company’s employees will have to do a lot of work to check the compatibility of other offers in the catalog. It’s worth noting that while the company hasn’t yet officially verified most of the games, there’s nothing stopping users from experimenting with options that haven’t been Deck Verified yet.
