Stray Fawn has announced that The Wandering Village is coming to Steam Early Access on September 14 for PC, Mac and Linux. Inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, the game is a unique city builder set on the back of a giant roaming creature known as the Onbu.
Combining city building and resource management with elements of roguelike and survival, players will need to forge a close relationship with a giant creature if they want to survive in a dangerous post-apocalyptic world. From growing crops and collecting rare resources to exploring the environment and expanding their settlement, players must keep creatures healthy while balancing the needs of their inhabitants if they are both to survive.
Faced with relentless weather, blood-sucking parasites, poisonous spores and limited resources, settling on the back of a living, breathing beast will not always be easy. Responding to unique opportunities and environmental threats, and adapting your village and its needs as you travel through a variety of dangerous biomes, is key to the player’s journey.
Building relationships between the villagers and Onbu can sometimes be tricky, as their interests often don’t align. Like a living being, its unique body sets its own agenda for the design of your village. There is every chance that the thorn has grown where the villagers intended to place their kitchen, while a failed harvest could cause desperation and tempt the villagers to take the creature’s blood for food.
Build a unique village on the back of a giant creature known as Onbu. Grow different crops to feed your inhabitants Send out foraging missions to collect rare resources Survive different biomes and events Build relationships with and influence the giant beast’s actions Explore and build various buildings Ecology/biology inspired gameplay Unique art style that combines in itself 3D and hand-drawn 2D graphics with animation.
