The GoodRAM brand, owned by the Polish company Wilk Elektronik SA, during the recent IFA 2022 consumer electronics exhibition announced the preparation of solid-state drives with a PCIe 5.0 interface. In particular, high-performance devices of the IRDM Ultimate series will be released. One of these drives hit the Geeknetic lens.
The products shown in the photographs are made in the M.2 2280 form factor. The Phison E26 controller is involved. Presumably, the drive is based on 162-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory chips from the Japanese company Kioxia.
As already noted, the PCIe 5.0 interface is used for data exchange – the device complies with the NVMe 2.0 specification. The read speed of information reaches 10 GB / s, the write speed is 9.5 GB / s.
The IRDM Ultimate family will include models with a capacity of 1, 2 and 4 TB. For them, the use of a rather massive cooling radiator is provided. Information about the timing of the start of sales and the price is not yet available.
Also, as part of IFA 2022, we managed to find out from a GoodRAM representative that the company is developing PCIe 5.0 SSDs equipped with active cooling. Probably, in addition to the radiator, a small fan will be used.
