As is well known, “Overwatch 2” is a Free2Play title that is to be financed by Battle Passes and cosmetic content. According to recent reports, there may be characters that can only be unlocked through battle passes.
At the beginning of next month, the online multiplayer shooter “Overwatch 2” will start its Early Access phase on consoles and PC.
As has been known since the shooter was officially announced, we are dealing with a Free2Play title that will be financed through content such as Battle Passes or cosmetic extras. On the Overwatch 2 official website, the community discovered an update that revealed that newly introduced heroes are not available from the start, but instead have to be unlocked with corresponding Battle Passes.
For example, the updated description for the “Watchpoint” pack, which includes the Season 1 Premium Battle Pass, states that Premium Battle Pass owners “gain automatic access to Overwatch’s newest hero, Kirkiko.”

A text passage that has since been removed, which is currently causing a lot of conversation in the “Overwatch 2” community. In the meantime, “Overwatch” commercial lead Jon Spector has also spoken up via Twitter and tried to calm the skeptical players.
While Spector says specific details on the Overwatch 2 Battle Passes will be forthcoming at a later date, he can already confirm that new heroes will be available on the Battle Passes “free route.” Statements suggesting that new heroes must either be unlocked through the free portion of the Battle Passes or can be unlocked directly with the Premium Battle Pass.
