Spiritfarer is an indie management sim in which players take on the role of Stella, helping the spirits pass to the afterlife. Players must upgrade their ship with the necessary amenities for passengers, as well as complete tasks to help them come to terms with death.
In addition to constructing and upgrading buildings, players will also have to take care of their passengers by keeping their ghostly stomachs well fed. Except for the special dietary requirements of some passengers, they also have favorite meals that require special ingredients to prepare. One such ingredient is the fiery glow spicy vegetable, which requires more work than most foods.
Where to find the fiery glow
As already mentioned, the fiery glow is a vegetable that is used to create various culinary recipes. In order to obtain this product, players must first grow Fire Glow Seeds in the ground at the farm built on the ship. It will take several days for the seeds to grow into the desired spice plant, so players should check their farm daily and water it when it starts to dry out.
However, before the player can start growing this plant, they must find the seeds of the fiery glow, which can be obtained during the passage of the Fireflies mini-game. This can only be done if the regal red eagle owl Gustav has been successfully recruited onto the ship, who will then task the player with catching some fireflies. There are a total of three areas on the map where players can travel to complete this event. It is easiest to find near the Kaltstein mines in the northwestern ice region. However, to get to this area, players must unlock the Icebreaker ship upgrade, and two other events can be found further east.
How to hire Gustav
Before players can start thinking about this mini-game, they must first find and recruit the eccentric owlet Gustav. While he may come across as rather arrogant to players, he has an amazing grace to him thanks to his love of art as well as his musical talent for playing the violin. Enough to cheer him up for this wise old owl to play melodies for the other passengers on the ship.
Players will first encounter Gustav on Furogawa Island, the main island of their region. Although players can meet him at the very beginning of his adventure, he cannot be accepted onto the ship until after the Icebreaker update is installed, as his quest requires the player to visit Susan’s museum and collect a tree imprint. It can be found in the Hammingburg region on the map after the player breaks through the thick glaciers blocking their path. By purchasing the missing woodcut from the legendary collector Susan, the player can happily invite Gustav on board, where he will immediately begin to critique the setting and also allow players to complete the event.
How to complete the Fireflies mini-game
Unlike recruiting Bruce and Mickey, Gustav never tasks the player with trying out this mini-game as a quest, and thus many players may not be aware of its existence until another villager needs its ingredients. By approaching one of the areas shown on the map, which looks like a cloud of fireflies, players can walk up to Gustav to start the event. This mini-game is definitely one of the easiest ones available to players, and is also a great way to make a flicker thanks to how many fireflies will appear on the screen.
A swarm of fireflies will appear on the right side of the screen, and then gradually fly over to the left, and the player will have to collect as many of them as possible in the allotted time. Most of the fireflies will be golden and they will only throw a flicker, but occasionally there will be bright red fireflies holding the pack. Players should pay attention to these red bugs, as they are the ones that drop the fiery glow seeds needed to grow the final plant. The excellent layout of the boat will help the player to collect a large number of seeds.
What to do with the fiery glow
Passengers don’t like to eat raw food in the Spiritfarer, so before presenting it to the spirits as a gourmet meal, players must first take care of it in the kitchen. On her own, she can make a simple appetizer called Flamin’ Firebirdz, but in the upgraded kitchen, the oven door is open for a variety of interesting dishes. For players hoping to please their friends with their favorite dishes, the fiery glow is a must, as it is needed to prepare the favorite dish of Jackie “Chilakiles” and Beverly “Lucks”.
Beverly will also ask the player to cook this dish for her as one of the tasks. This means that eventually players will need to farm Fire Radiance, even if it is only a small amount, in order to fulfill the last wishes of those on the ship. It’s important to note that none of Gustav’s requests require a fiery glow, though he loves exotic food, which is what most of the fire glow recipes are for.
