While many players are waiting for The Callisto Protocol to launch, it looks like there will be a lot of content coming after the debut. DLC support will last for a full year.
Update: There was a misunderstanding during the interview between Striking Distance Studios and TrueTrophies. Mark James spoke of a full year (“full year of support”) and not four years (“four years of support”). We have adjusted the message accordingly.
Original announcement from September 3, 2022: “The Callisto Protocol” is supposed to teach players fear from December 2022. While it is still unknown how long the average buyer will be employed, the developers assure that expansions will follow in the twelve months after the launch.
According to Mark James, chief technical officer at Striking Distance Studios, the DLC schedule is designed for a full four years. In a conversation with TrueTrophies during Gamescom 2022 he emphasized: “We see the game as a full-service title and will invest in DLC. We expect full support after release.”
Opportunities created for successors
James left it open what content will be offered with the extensions. Instead, he emphasized that the game world was designed to provide opportunities for additional narratives. This also applies to possible successors.
“We left the world expandable. We have created a world that can tell different stories. And so we can either tell these stories through DLC. Or we could actually tell those stories through subsequent products. We left that open to us,” says James.
The Callisto Protocol is a narrative and single-player focused title, so the release of additional content will incentivize players to keep coming back to the game long after launch.
Ultimately, it is to be hoped that the story in the game itself will feel complete and complete, so that even players who do not want to play expansions and sequels will not miss anything important.
