After the takeover of the western Square Enix studios by the Embracer Group, the conversions for the further operation of the big brands such as Tomb Raider or Deus Ex are now apparently beginning.
Embracer Group paid 300 million US dollars to take over most of Square Enix’s western studios, including well-known developers such as Crystal Dynamics or Eidos Montreal. Now that the deal has been in the can since the end of August, Embracer Group is now apparently starting to remodel and shift the trademark rights.
Crystal Dynamics is delighted to announce that the studio has taken control of several game brands, including Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain, from previous owner Square Enix. As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or one of its affiliates) now owns these gaming brands. Crystal Dynamics has been working on a new Tomb Raider game based on Unreal Engine 5 for quite some time.
Eidos Montreal has also updated its Terms of Service and Privacy Notice, indicating that the studio is now back in full control of the Deus Ex or Thief brands as well.
Embracer Group announced at the time of the acquisition that it was eyeing sequels, remakes, remasters and more for the two studios’ brands.
