In Overwatch 2, new heroes will apparently be unlockable via a Battle Pass, as has now been discovered.
Since Overwatch 2 is going down the path of a free-to-play model, the Battle Pass is a logical step to fund the game for years to come.
A description on the game’s website stated that players can unlock the new hero, Kirkiko, with the Watchpoint Pack, which includes the Premium Battle Pass.
This gave many the impression of a possible unfair advantage when new heroes are offered behind a paywall.
Jon Spector, who works as Commercial Leader & VP at Blizzard, reported on the topic and corrected that new heroes in the Battle Pass are unlocked on the free track.
New heroes will then also be available free of charge in the Battle Pass in the future. Players who miss the unlock in a current season should be given another chance at a later date.
