The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is one of the best smartwatches on the market in 2022, with a recommended retail price of €369.90 on the brand’s website. Announced in Milan, the product does justice to the European fashion capital with a luxury design.
It is currently the brand’s flagship in the wearables segment and is compatible with Android, iOS (iPhone) smartphones and, of course, Huawei smartphones with HarmonyOS. However, this same HarmonyOS is its “biggest enemy” as we will see later.
The smart watch is available in various styles and bracelet combinations. The tested version offered us a 46 mm metallic case, made of titanium, which is light and robust. It’s complemented by the gray-dyed genuine leather strap for a sophisticated look.
The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is the most refined version of the Watch GT 3, with more extras and features, even if it doesn’t work perfectly. With the price difference being considerable, the GT 3 version has a better quality / price ratio, especially for those who don’t have a Huawei smartphone as some features don’t work so well on iOS and Android.
Strengths of the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro

Weaknesses of the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro
Laborious initial setup “App store” still limited Inconstant synchronization with Android smartphoneSome functions not available (ECG, etc)
Huawei smartwatch design and general appearance
The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is compatible with 22mm watch straps, the one included in this very stylish matte gray version. Removing the bracelet is very easy and can be done with one hand to change bracelets.
The look of the watch is one of its strongest points. Generation after generation, Huawei has perfected its range of smartwatches and this overall look combines classic elements with the modern smart watch.
Huawei Watch GT3 Pro is the smartwatch you can take to the office or the gym. From casual meeting to business meeting, mirroring quality in all its lines, including the bracelet that perfectly complements the look.
There is always something to improve and on this watch I would like to find a higher quality bracelet. It could be thicker and softer, with a more organic feel that we find in conventional watches priced similarly to the Huawei smartwatch.
The Watch GT 3 Pro is available in two versions, Titanium and Ceramic. The first exudes a more masculine energy, with the metallic gray and matte gray of the bracelet. The second, with a smaller case and in white ceramic, is markedly more feminine.
Build quality of Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro
The smartphone features two buttons on the right side. Firstly, we have a rotating crown, which also serves as a “clickable” button to navigate the interface and zoom in or out in the general application menu, just like in Apple’s watchOS.
The second, cylindrical, low-profile button is dedicated to sport activity monitoring modes. That is, a direct shortcut to the entire sports area supported by the watch, allowing us to start tracking an exercise by simply clicking the necessary times (from 3).
This second button, in addition to functioning as such, is also a driving surface, a crucial element for some of the watch’s advanced health functions. This is where we should tap to, for example, run the ECG function (as soon as it becomes available), in addition to other tests that take advantage of this element.
In short, the build quality is the biggest strength of this Huawei smart watch. The same can be said, however, of the product design, honoring the accumulated knowledge of the Chinese manufacturer in this segment, which, especially now, is so grateful to him.
We also have good water resistance, with resistance certification up to 30 meters deep, so it can be used in the pool or bath with relative confidence.
General software and initial setup
Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro connects to Android and iOS smartphones (iPhone) via Bluetooth connection. However, the control of its functions is done through the Huawei Saúde application and this is where the mishaps caused by the software and platforms begin.
First, the smartwatch presents us with a welcome message, followed by a QR code and a request to install the Huawei Health application, opening the Play Store or App Store where we have outdated versions of the app.
More specifically, on the Play Store we have a version last updated on 15 / 07 / 2020. The iOS version, on the App Store, is the most recent, with the last update on 7 / 09 / 2022 at the time of writing. article.
Therefore, if you have an Android smartphone, after the initial connection of the smartwatch to the phone, the control application – Huawei Health – will ask to be updated. In this way, the user has no other option but to install the Huawei AppGallery application. Then, through the AppGallery where you also have to log in, you can finalize the clock configuration.
Later, through the Health app and the AppGallery, we can install more apps for the watch. Here are some useful ones like the Google Maps navigation for the wrist, with step-by-step directions, or your Petal Maps, also from Huawei.
The procedure for installing and granting the permissions requested by the watch for the Health app is extensive. For a user less versed in technology, the result can be frustration and not enjoyment or correct configuration of the Watch GT 3 Pro.
More than 100 types of exercises supported for monitoringContinuous measurement of Temperature, Stress, SpO2 (oximetry) and Heart Rate levelsVarious modes dedicated to monitoring specific modalitiesSupport for ECG (international, gradually arriving)Receives phone notifications and allows you to respond to messagesCan do and receive phone calls with Bluetooth connection Various digital displays or watchfaces available GNSS location built into the watch
The latest generation of Huawei’s high-end smartwatch features a new, more accurate biometric sensor. It can measure the user’s body temperature, stress levels, heart rate, elasticity of arteries and veins, could do ECG, in addition to all the usual monitoring of the user’s sleep, exercise and general physical condition.
Strong range of functions for exercise and fitness monitoring
The software has a vast catalog of functions for sports and, in those that we manage to perform, the experience is good, including GPS location to follow the routes.
There are aspects where it fails compared to other platforms, but here the problem is mainly due to the software.
We do have a generous range of physical activity indicators. Several hypotheses to follow the user’s physical exercise, continuous monitoring and oximetry estimates during training sessions.
It is a very complete watch, ideal for those who practice running, walking, among many other sports and types of exercise inside and outside the home.
The ECG functionality, despite being supported by the watch, is not yet approved in Europe, so at the moment it is just a latent promise.
AMOLED screen and good speaker for phone calls
The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro smartwatch has a 1.43-inch, AMOLED display. The typical colors of these panels are excellent, with good viewing angles and unrestricted visibility even outdoors, presenting a good maximum brightness.
This AMOLED screen can take advantage of Always-On mode, that is, always show the clock and, when in use, keep the screen on for 5 minutes. It has a good touch response, with easy registration of touches, swipes and contact.
In addition to being a sports watch, the Watch GT 3 Pro is a modern smartwatch, with all the premises that this entails. You can therefore answer and make calls, with a microphone included and an excellent speaker for the format and size of the watch.
The “Smart” functions of the Huawei smartwatch
However, some functions are not fully supported on Android smartphones and especially iOS, on iPhone. Importing music to the watch was not possible for me, paired with an Android smartphone and, once again, the repeated request for permissions for the Huawei Health app was exasperating.
We can, however, control the music playback on the smartphone, receive notifications from Facebook, Instagram, Google Chrome and essentially all the notifications that the smartphone receives. In fact, the Health app essentially mirrors the notifications received by the phone to the smartwatch, which gives us a lot of information for the wrist.
For those interested, we can also respond to messages from Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, among other apps. This notification support varies, however, depending on the platform and type of applications in question.
However, we feel hostage to the Huawei Health app and its occasional whims. Not only is the range of additional apps for the watch limited, via the App Gallery, not being the best “Smart” experience we’ve found on a smartwatch.
Exemplary battery autonomy on the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro
Up to 14 days of battery life with normal useApproximately 7 days with heavy use and Always-On displayStandard Qi wireless charging
Battery life is one of the strengths of the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro. We have about two weeks or 14 days with a normal usage pattern, without Always-On mode enabled. For a “typical” use these are very good values.
On the other hand, with more intensive use and exploration of all monitoring functions and the “always on” screen, we have between 7 and 8 days of autonomy. Once again, these are excellent values for the smart watch segment.
It is important to note that these values were calculated in the Titanium version, 46 mm.
This is a watch that can last us about two weeks between charges, without worries, or at least a week with heavy use. Especially if you like to run and record the routes with the GPS location activated, the autonomy will be close to a week, which is still very good.
The new generation, with the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, brings us wireless charging, Qi standard, faster than previous watches. More specifically, a full charge from 0% – 100% takes less than 90 minutes.
In 10 minutes of charge we have about 25% of battery charged, indicating the presence of fast charging.
The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro fulfills its desire to deliver us an elegant and premium watch, with very good build quality and room for improvement in the material of the bracelet / strap.
Software remains its biggest obstacle, with the AppGallery pushing us to fully and effectively take advantage of the Huawei smartwatch. It’s a great watch to pair and use with Huawei smartphones.
While smartwatch to use with Android and iOS smartphones is mediocre due to its platform and limitations of compatibility / support of some functions.
When buying a high-end watch, we naturally want to make full use of its capabilities and this is not the case with Android and iOS (iPhone) smartphones.
The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro received an overall score of 7.5 points out of a possible 10. It is one of the best smartwatches of 2022, but the software conditions the user experience that could, with these arguments, be excellent.
