In today’s update to the Xbox app, Microsoft announced that it has teamed up with HowLongToBeat.com to integrate playtime estimates into its game library pages.
Starting today, you can view estimates of how long it will take you to complete your game on the game details pages for most PC Game Pass games. HowLongToBeat is a community website specializing in game length.
Each game’s details tab will have a new section called HowLongToBeat that provides ratings based on what kind of gamer you are. If you’re usually the type to leave the side quests aside and just play through the campaign, then the “main story” is the score you should be focusing on. If you tend to play the story and most of the side quests, then “main + extra.” – your choice. If you are the type to complete the campaign, all side quests, and then hunt for every collectible and unlockable item in the game, then you are “Completed (100%)”. And if you think you’re a casual gamer, the “all styles” section lists the average play time for each player.
You may not need to know what kind of gamer you are before you actually play the game, but HowLongToBeat is still a great resource. The site also has the entire Xbox Game Pass library, so you can see the times for every game on the Xbox platform.
Xbox has also updated the game details tab with trailers, screenshots, and a description at the top of the page. By clicking the “view details” link, players can even submit their own personal play time and view community feedback, walkthrough notes, data breakdowns, and more.
Finally, there have been significant improvements to the Xbox app. The app now launches 15% faster, returns search results 20% faster, and reports of failed downloads or installation failures have been halved.
