The head coach of the Ukrainian national volleyball team Ugis Krastins told what the team lacked to overcome Slovenia in the quarterfinals of the World Championship:
“We didn’t have enough experience in games of this level. We played not only against the Slovenian national team, but also against their fans, who created a fantastic atmosphere in the arena. There were more than 11 thousand during the match! They were rooting for their team, not for us. At some point, you begin to feel this pressure quite strongly. Due to such tension, we were unable to finish the match at the level that we showed during the first and second games.
You should get used to this level and be ready to perform at it. By the way, we are not the only ones who say this. I know that the Italians said before the final that the main thing for them is to cope with the pressure that the fans put on the opponent.”
