Yakuza, or Like a Dragon to use the most recent nomenclature, is a saga that is based primarily on the plot and its characters. This means that future games may change gameplay if that is to create a better story.
The information was shared during the RGG Summit 2022, during which Like a Dragon 8 was announced, a follow-up to Yakuza Like a Dragon. Masayoshi Yokoyama, executive producer, said the new game will be a turn-based RPG, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a return to the saga’s “action” roots in the future, if it makes sense for the story.
Jokingly, the producer stated that Like a Dragon could also become a party game, if it serves to tell the plot in the right way. For example, the fact that Yakuza Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon 8 are turn-based RPGs also serves to tell how the characters come together in friendship and collaborate with each other.

The saga can therefore evolve in various ways in the future, if the developers believe that it is the best move for Like a Dragon.
In this day there have been various themed announcements, namely: Like a Dragon 8, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Like a Dragon: Ishin.
