Ilya Massukh, Director General of the Competence Center for Import Substitution in the Sphere of ICT, stated that Russia hopes for friendly countries in the field of microprocessor production. His words during the plenary discussion at the BIS Summit 2022 are reported by TASS.
Massukh noted that it is quite difficult to create an industry of microprocessors, so Russia will mainly rely on friendly countries in this matter.
At the same time, he stressed that at some point it will still be necessary to establish its own production of chips in Russia.
In June, it was reported that the Russian company Baikal Electronics canceled the production and sale of domestic Baikal-S server processors amid the refusal of the Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC to enter into new contracts for the production of chips.
In August, Taiwan’s representative in France, François Chin-Chun Wu, spoke about a possible shortage of chips in the world if the conflict between the US and China escalates over the status of an island nation.
