Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is convinced that the takeover of game publisher Activision Blizzard, initiated at the beginning of the year, will succeed, despite all the difficulties associated with interest from antitrust authorities around the world. The head of Microsoft spoke about the course of the deal for $ 70 billion as part of a conversation with the editors of Bloomberg.
“Of course, business acquisitions of this magnitude will go through the most thorough scrutiny. However, we remain very, very confident that everything will go as it should,” said Satya Nadella.
The head of Microsoft added that the corporation decided to buy a publishing house in order to be able to compete better with other giants.
Microsoft is now only fourth or fifth in the ranking of the largest players in the gaming industry, and Sony, according to Nadella, can be called a leader.
“Talk about competition? Okay. We want to compete [с крупнейшими игроками рынка]!’, – stressed Nadella.
Recall that last week the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) initiated an in-depth investigation into the merger between Microsoft and Activision.
British regulators believe that a scenario in which Microsoft becomes the sole owner of the world’s largest gaming series, such as Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, has the potential to greatly harm natural market competition, putting at risk both existing companies and those who only is gearing up for its debut in the interactive entertainment industry. The main stumbling block was the Call of Duty franchise.
