After playing through the intro quests after arriving on the Dragon Isles, you can start directly with the story campaign – at the same time as the various side quests. The first chapter of the Dragonflight campaign, Dragons Under Pressure, introduces you to current events on the Dragon Isles. One of the skills you’ll learn after completing the first chapter, progressing with Alexstrasza, is dragon riding – a must-have tool before general flying becomes available in a later patch.

Dragons Under Pressure – Story Summary
Below you can read the original lore summary from the quest log. The introductory story while arriving on the Dragon Isles can be found here.
Majordomo Selistra and Wrathion appeared and reported that the Djaradin, ancient rivals of the dragons, had reawakened and were attacking a nearby dragon outpost.
Together with Commander Lethanak and Sendrax, you rescued the wounded civilians and pups from the Djaradin attack.
Once the pups were safe, you fought your way into the Djaradin’s volcanic stronghold. With the help of Wrathion’s spies and majordomo Selistra, you made sure that the Djaradin could no longer threaten their neighbors. At least for now.
You went in search of Sendrax at the Life-Binder’s Conservatory, tending injured dragonkin along the way.
In the ruins of the Conservatory, you and Sendrax were quickly surrounded by primalists. Their leader, a colossal fire proto-drake, ordered his subordinates to imbue stolen red dragon eggs with elemental energies. Despite your best efforts, the pups that hatched from the eggs could not be helped. The influence of the Primalists had driven her insane.
Sendrax heroically sacrificed her life to protect the last egg from the primalists.
Structure of the campaign in Dragonflight
Currently, you cannot reach level 70 in the Dragonflight Beta simply by completing the campaign. So you also have to play dungeons and/or complete side quests.
The first gate takes place in the Azure Mountains, where you must be level 66 to continue the Dragonflight campaign. However, you’re safe if you complete at least 3 dungeons at level 60 and above, and you don’t have to do side quests.
The second gate is more noticeable and you need to reach level 70 to start the final two chapters of the Dragonflight campaign. By completing the Dragonflight campaign, world quests are then unlocked and the actual endgame of the ninth expansion begins. — (Source).
