It was one of the most anticipated games of the moment, A Plague Tale: Requiem was finally released yesterday on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. The sequel to the Bordeaux game from Asobo Studio takes us back on the roads of the Kingdom of France in the shoes of Amicia and her little brother Hugo, who must at all costs find a remedy to cure the youngest of the grip of the macula. To do this, they will have to go to an island that has been appearing in young De Rune’s dreams for several weeks, and hope to find answers there. Along the way, you will find many collectibles that are not always very useful, but are well listed in the game menus. But did you know that there is also a secret piece of equipment that you can only obtain by completing a mysterious optional puzzle? If you want to get this handy reward, we advise you to read the following lines carefully. Be careful though, this puzzle only happens halfway through the game, so we are addressing those who have reached this stage.

Don Quixote and his windmills
It is in Chapter IX – Tales and Revelations that you can find this famous enigma. Once you have left the domain of the Count and Countess and you have found Sophia outside, you will reach the most open area of the game. If the latter is already full of collectibles of all kinds to collect ( which you can find thanks to our dedicated guide), it also contains a mysterious and totally optional puzzle, the reward of which might interest you.
While strolling through the area, you may have noticed a few strange symbols. For example, there is one behind the falls to the right of the Count’s estate, and another on a stele surrounded by a circle of stones at the very bottom, near the river. All of these mysterious marks are actually linked to a riddle revolving around the four windmills that you can see on the hill above. To solve the latter, start by joining these buildings.
Each mill is marked with a number above its front door, ranging from 1 to 4. By observing the blades of the mills, you will be able to notice that some are moving, while others are not. The whole puzzle lies in this mechanism, which you will have to modify. So start by entering the mill n°1 through its main gate, and activate the brake inside to stop the wings.
Then head towards the mill no. 2and go behind him to pull the rope and clear the way for you. Then repeat the operation and operate the brake inside to stop the wings of this mill.
You can enter inside the mill n°3 by pushing the cart against its wall and sending Hugo on the inside, but don’t do anything. In effect, mill n°3 is the only one whose mechanism must not be touched to solve the enigma (so be reassured if, like us, a bug prevents you from entering: you won’t miss anything).
Go directly to mill no. 4and slip under the cart to access the ladder. From the window, pull the lock blocking the front door, before finally penetrating inside the building and turn off the brake to move its wings. If you did everything right, you should hear a noise in the distance.
To summarize :
Mill No. 1 must be stoppedMill No. 2 must be stoppedMill No. 3 must stay runningMill No. 4 must be restarted
Better hidden than the One Piece
Once you have solved the puzzle correctly, Position yourself between mills 2 and 3, and look behind them. You should see a path passing under stone arches. Borrow it and go down the ladder that takes you under the ground on the right. At the end of this long corridor, you should find a large stone wall now open, with a design of a windmill engraved on it. If it is not open, the grinders are not working properly.
So enter this new passage, and discover the smugglers hideout. At the end of the path, you will come across their treasure room, and can recover 20 fragments and 2 tools in the coffers, but especially the famous Ancient Armband placed in the middle of the room. The latter allows you to recover faster after suffering an enemy attackin addition to making you look good with completely secret equipment until the end of the game.
