New episode in the soap opera around Bayonetta 3. After Hellena Taylor’s call for a boycott concerning the third opus and the reaction of her replacement, it is Bloomberg and Jason Schreier who bring a new version of the facts with an investigation.

Bayonetta 3, point of contention concerning the dubbing “Platinum tries to save its butt”
Bayonetta 3, object of contention concerning the dubbing
At the end of last week, the main dubber of Bayonetta (in English version) launched a call for a boycott of the third opus. In a series of several videos, Hellena Taylor explains that she was offered a sum of 4,000 dollars (a lower offer would have been made before) for the entire dubbing of the character. A sum that she considers derisory for the work provided and for the success (to which she partly contributed with her work) and the revenue generated by the license.
It is at the end of the video that she calls on all the players who initially decided to buy Bayonetta 3 to boycott the title and to donate the money initially planned to associations of their choice.
An initiative in the same spirit as the statements by Tara Strong regarding the choice of Chris Pratt as Mario’s voice actor for the animated film. Words that made the web react, especially since it personally targets Hideki Kamiya (producer of the game) who closed his Twitter account for a few moments. It is also Jennifer Hale, new dubber of the Witch, who wanted to react although bound by professional secrecy.

“Platinum is trying to save its ass”
Until last night, the story ended there. It was without counting the survey published by Jason Schreier on Bloomberg, which adds quite surprising details and allows us to have the other side’s version of the facts. What to take a step back in a more optimal way:
Taylor denies this account. In an email to Bloomberg, she called that version of events an “absolute lie” and said that Platinum is “trying to save their ass and the game.”

Platinum offered Hellena Taylor between $3,000 and $4,000 per session for at least 5 sessions, according to two people familiar with the deal and documentation viewed by Bloomberg. In response to this offer, Taylor demanded a six-figure fee and residual rights. The negotiations failed.

In any case, this case will have shaken the world of video games and that of dubbers. A world that Hellena Taylor, in an email addressed to Bloomberg, that she wants to leave by not wanting “to hear any more about Bayonetta” and decides to devote her life to the theater.
As a reminder, Bayonetta 3 is the third opus of an essential beat’em up franchise developed by PlatinumGames. It is expected on October 28, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
