Should Sony accept the deal proposed by Microsoft once the Activision acquisition is completed, all Call Of Duty games will be released on PlayStation 5 and next generation PlayStation consoles until 2027.
To confirm this, it was Microsoft directly in a document sent to the English CMA: “With access to Call of Duty guaranteed under the contract in force with Activision Blizzard, Sony has ample time to ensure that its platform and its content portfolio is competitively positioned to withstand any impact from a foreclosure strategy ”.
With this document, it also emerges that the agreements between Sony and Activision Blizzard that prevent making the franchise an Xbox exclusive will be valid until 2024. Consequently, Phil Spencer’s proposal to extend this three-year period would result in the guarantee of having the first-person-shooter on Sony platforms until 2027. A proposal, meaning from the document forwarded to the CMA, is still valid.
In the reply a lot to the CMA regarding the Jim Ryan’s concerns on the Call of Duty issueMicrosoft also highlighted Sony PlayStation’s undisputed market leader positionso well established that it can even afford controversial choices such as the increase in the price of PS5.
