19.10.2022 at 20:44 by Michael Miskulin – Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was well received by the audience and the success of the Netflix anime ensured that Cyberpunk 2077 was able to experience a kind of second spring on Steam. So far, however, things are not looking good for a second season that will directly continue the story.
The successful launch of the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has seen Cyberpunk 2077 soar to new heights on Steam. The series was extremely well received by critics and viewers and was therefore able to celebrate success on Netflix. So the question is justified as to whether CD Projekt Red wants to follow up on this success with a second season.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was designed as a standalone story
Apparently, however, CDPR has not planned a second season for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. In an interview with Famitsu (via VGC), CD Projekt Red Japan Country Manager Satoru Honma explained that while he personally would love to work on a second season of the anime, the series was conceived as a standalone story, which ultimately means that there are currently no plans for a second season.

“Personally, I would like to continue working with Japanese studios to produce more animes in the future, also because we have received very good feedback,” said Honma. “Just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no ‘we’re working on season 2 in the background’.” He also hints that another season of the anime doesn’t necessarily have to be a direct sequel to the first season: “Even if we could do another anime in the future, I don’t know if it’ll be a season 2 or something completely different will,” says Honma.
