In today’s times, individual fates are often too much lost, so that we only came across sad news that was announced yesterday. Because like you also with the website games economy, Simon Hellwig, the founder of the German software and games publisher Kalypso Media, passed away at the age of just 46. Until recently, he also worked as co-managing director for the Worms-based company. The second co-managing director, Anika Thun, will take over his duties. Kalypso Media thanked Facebook and Twitter for the support that has apparently already been received in large numbers and emphasized that Anika Thun will continue Simon Hellwig’s legacy. Since the atmosphere in the headquarters in Worms tends to be more informal, the death of Simon Hellwig hits the company hard. At this point we would like to express our condolences to the family, friends and employees and we are certain that Kalypso Media will continue to be run in the spirit of Simon.
This is Kalypso Media
A few more words about Kalypso Media: The company was founded by Simon Hellwig and Stefan Marcinek in 2006 and, as a publisher and umbrella company for several studios, has been able to show many successful games without navigating too much in the direction of typical AAA titles. Again and again, the publisher managed to bring games with charm onto the market that could ensure decent reviews and a solid fan base. This includes, for example, the popular development strategy series Tropico, which has been part of Kalypso since the third part (2009). It also includes games like Sins of a Solar Empire, Grand Ages: Rome, Patrician 4, Port Royale 3 and 4, Sudden Strike 4 and Railway Empire. Most recently, the RPG strategy mix Disciples: Liberation and the tennis simulation Matchpoint were released. The recently announced dark fantasy adventure The Inquisitor could be another success for Kalypso Media. According to Kalypso, the company currently has more than 170 employees spread over 10 locations. Five of them are in Germany, others in Great Britain, France, Japan and the USA.
