Microsoft stated that Sony pays Activision Blizzard including for blocking games in the series Call of Duty in Xbox Game Pass – for several years. According to some sources, the current franchise deal could expire in 2024. Microsoft has previously said that Sony is paying developers for the “right to block” to keep certain projects out of Game Pass and other subscription services. However, Call of Duty was not specifically mentioned then. Many have speculated that Sony isn’t really afraid of losing Call of Duty, but rather the threat posed by Game Pass to the current market-leading console-and-exclusivity model.
Merger deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard should be completed by the end of June 2023. It is estimated at 68.7 billion dollars.
