We all already knew about Netflix’s plans to end account sharing. Now, we have concrete information about the measure that the streaming giant will put into action in early 2023.
The information comes from the last quarter accounts report that Netflix published yesterday. Therefore, it will be next year that the company will charge an extra fee to all users who share their account with third parties.
If you share your account with third parties, be prepared to pay more for Netflix
At the heart of this measure is the abrupt drop in subscribers that the company recently recorded. In order to win back customers and address the concerns of its investors, Netflix is redoubling its efforts to convert users of shared accounts.
In effect, Netflix will implement an extra fee for all users who share their account. The company states that this fee will be applied when an account sharing with users form the same house is detected.
The applicable amount has not been specified by the company, although it is believed to be around a quarter of the base monthly fee. This means that we should expect values in the region of €3 or €4 above the usual monthly fee.
The application of this measure still raises some doubts, especially when Netflix says that it will be applied if an account is used outside the same house. It remains to be seen which scenarios will fit into this condition.
To avoid this fee, Netflix this week announced the availability of a tool for migrating preferences to another account. All so that those who usually share an account can have their own account without losing their preferences.
The option will be available in your Netflix profile menu. There you will find the option “transfer profile” for a simple transition of your preferences and settings to a new account.
It is important to note that this transfer of preferences will only work for new accounts. You will not be able to migrate data to an existing Netflix account.
