It became known that Netflix is developing 55 games, and some of the projects are based on their own entertainment service franchises. This is stated in a letter to investors (PDF), which was published along with the company’s financial report for the third quarter.

Netflix seems to be getting serious about gaming after initially launching a handful of titles for Android and iOS devices late last year. The company’s intention to launch more games on its platform suggests that at this stage the segment is evolving in line with initial expectations. Part of Netflix’s strategy is to make sure subscribers see games as one of the reasons they should keep using the service.
The letter to investors said that the games are a “multi-year journey”. This indicates the company’s intention to invest in this area for a long time. Despite these efforts, statistics indicate that less than 1% of Netflix subscribers currently interact with the games offered by the service on a daily basis.
Curiously, Netflix’s letter does not specify which games the company is developing. This may mean that in the future the platform will introduce games that are not only for mobile devices. Last month, the company announced the creation of an internal game studio in Finland, as well as the acquisition of several studios, including adventure game developer Oxenfree. It is also known that before the end of the year, Netflix plans to release more than 50 games on its platform.
