Before a new chipset is released, we usually see benchmark results thanks to some Chinese smartphone. However, this time things were different. The leak did not come from any of these devices, but from Samsung’s own Galaxy S23. So, despite the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 not yet released, the geekbench score of the next smartphone in the Galaxy range has been released.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: finally Android over iPhone?
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 features one core running at 3.36 GHz, four cores running at 2.80 GHz and two cores running at 2.02 GHz. This according to the results on Geekbench. However, while we’re still not entirely sure, “Kalama” very likely refers to Qualcomm’s next high-end chip.
The new chipset also features an updated graphics. The Adreno 730 is present in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 while the Adreno 740 comes in the new processor. However, I remember that leakster Abhishek Yadav stated in Twitter that the Galaxy S23 will have 8 GB of RAM and arrive with Android 13.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 seems to make a significant difference as seen in the results.
In addition to the S23, it is very likely that the new processor will also arrive with the Xiaomi 13. This makes perfect sense. After all, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is used in the Xiaomi 12 range and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is used in the Xiaomi 12S range.
The secret for this chip to be able to surpass what is present in the new iPhones seems to be in the graphics card. At least that’s what leakster Digital Chat Station has revealed.
Qualcomm really had to do something in this field, especially if we consider the beating that the Apple A16 chipset gives in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The apple bet has almost 40% more power which is really surprising.
Let’s now wait for more results to understand exactly how this will work in the real world.
