Almost a month ago it was announced that there will be no fourth Star Trek film with Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and Co. for the time being. Only recently the director dropped out again. Matt Shakman was actually responsible for the task. Now, the filmmaker will take his place directing Marvel’s Fantastic Four production. Shakman wasn’t the only creative involved with Star Trek 4, though. JD Payne and Patrick McKay were also working on a script.
Star Trek 4 story details
In an interview with Esquire The duo who served as showrunners on Season 1 of Lord of the Rings: The Power Rings have now shared a little insight into their plans for the next Star Trek movie. Among other things, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) would have encountered a younger version of his father here. The creators were inspired by an episode from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In detail, it is about the episode “Visit from the old Enterprise” from the year 1992. Here the crew around actor Patrick Stewart encounters a transport buffer in which Scotty from the original series from 1966 was trapped. The machine allowed Scotty to still be young – due to a faulty transmission. Although he was locked up for 75 years. It would have been similar in Star Trek 4 with George Kirk, as Payne and McKay have now revealed in an interview.

Then-Kirk actor should return
Prior to the 2009 Star Trek spaceship explosion, George Kirk launched an attempt to escape from the ship using the transport buffer at the last moment. The mission failed – however, James T. Kirk would have found the transport pattern with which he can bring his father back. Chris Hemsworth, who had already taken over the part 13 years earlier, was planned for the role of George Kirk.
