The Italian-Franco-American group currently produces six electric cars in France, and this figure will double “shortly”.
The e-308 SW recently presented by Peugeot
The Paris Motor Show is currently in full swing, and earlier this week, several leaders made the trip to present their new products to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
It was also an opportunity to make some announcements concerning the future of the manufacturers concerned, and on the side of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, its director, confirmed that there will be, very quickly, 12 electric cars sold by the different brands of the group manufactured in France.
Strengthen its presence in its territory
Good news for French factories which, like most sectors, fear for their future with the arrival in force of Chinese models, or even the relocation of the production of certain French models in order to reduce costs.
But on the other hand, the government seems to want to show protectionism towards its automobile industry by probably soon correlating the ecological bonus to the place of manufacture of the electric car in question. A decision that will undoubtedly sound like a response to the various decisions taken by China and the United States which also go in this direction.
Which models produced in France?
Stellantis also specified which will be the future electric cars produced in France. There will be a majority of Peugeot models, since the e-308 and the e-308 break, which will arrive next year, will be produced in Mulhouse, in the Haut-Rhin, just like the new Peugeot e-408. An e-408 which will obviously be long overdue since it is not provided for in Peugeot’s product plan in 2023, although it was formalized a few weeks ago.
At the same time, the future Peugeot 3008 and 5008, which will have the right to their electric version, could arrive in 2024 or 2025, and these will be manufactured in Sochaux, in the Doubs. On the Citroën side, the brand’s future electric SUV, of which we do not currently know any details, will be produced at the Rennes plant.

The best-selling electric vehicles are still produced overseas
At the same time, Stellantis already produces several electric vehicles in France, including the DS 3 E-Tense and the Opel Mokka-e in Poissy, in the Yvelines. Several electric utility vehicles are also produced in Hordain, in the north of France, with the Citroën ë-Jumpy, Peugeot e-Expert, Opel Vivaro-e and Vauxhall Vivaro-e.
On the other hand, and you may have noticed, the Peugeot e-208, one of the best-selling electric cars in France, is not manufactured in France. This is assembled in Slovakia for the French market, but also in a factory in Morocco for models intended for international markets. On the other hand, its powertrain is manufactured on the Tréméry-Metz site, in Moselle, and in Douvrin, in Pas-de-Calais.
For its part, its big brother, the Peugeot e-2008, is manufactured near Vigo, in Spain, as are the small utility vehicles Citroën ë-Berlingo, Opel Combo-e and Peugeot ë-Boxer. Also in Spain, the Citroën ë-C4 is manufactured in Madrid, while the Opel Corsa-e is assembled in Zaragoza, at the Figueruelas plant.
Peugeot brings some changes to its e-208, which offers autonomy and increased power. It thus beats the Renault Zoé, displayed at 395 kilometers.
