October 19th, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. by Philipp Sattler – With the upcoming expansion WoW: Dragonflight, the developers are finally revising the entire profession system to an unprecedented extent. This also includes the fact that all professions are given new glossy icons.
After many years, the developers are doing something with WoW: Dragonflight that has been long overdue. In the coming expansion, the professions will receive an urgently needed revision and will be completely turned inside out. In addition to different quality levels, there will be various specializations and new skill levels. As a result, the professions and their high skills should not be completed after a few days, but should remain fresh throughout the expansion.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether this will ultimately work the way the developers intend it to. The first reactions to the revision are quite optimistic. So the various professions of WoW (buy now) may not be highlights of the MMO, but at least they shouldn’t be quite as bleak as they were in the past expansions.

New icons complete the picture
In order to take this complete revision into account visually, the developers have also completely replaced the icons of the respective professions in the latest beta build. And by that we don’t mean the icons of the different things you can craft with your profession. Rather, the professional icons themselves were exchanged for modern variants.
These new icons have significantly more detail than their predecessors, while retaining their charm and clarity. It is still immediately recognizable which icon belongs to which profession. Although there will certainly be some confusion in the pre-patch as players will be looking for the familiar icons in their action bars. Incidentally, archeology is the only profession that still has the old icon. Maybe that will change – or, as many suspect, the profession will eventually share the fate of first aid and disappear from the game.
Ultimately, of course, it’s more important how the professions feel and how meaningful they are in the upcoming expansion. Nevertheless, we find the new icons to be quite attractive.
