The new episode of the telenovela that is taking place for the $ 70 billion Microsoft-Activision deal directly involves video game enthusiasts. In a surprise move, the British CMA asks the public to express an opinion on the feasibility or risks of this agreement.
The body that regulates the markets of the United Kingdom explains in fact that, starting today Thursday 20 October, all video game enthusiasts can contact the English antitrust directly to present their ideas and assessments on the deal that should lead toActivision Blizzard’s entry into the Xbox family.
In coming to their own conclusions (presumably) by the first half of 2023the British commission that is examining the risks of monopoly and damage to competition deriving from the agreement between Microsoft and Activision will also take into consideration the statements of gamers.
In fact, the note issued by the CMA itself states that “at this point we invite anyone, including members of the public, to share your views with us“. The timing of this initiative is not clear, therefore we invite interested parties to take this opportunity as soon as possible to express their opinion on the issue, thus offering further elements to the commission that is examining this delicate case. On the pages of the official website of the CMA find all the indications to send an email to the address indicated by the commission to collect the opinions of the public.
At the end of the current phase, the investigation launched by the CMA will continue with the acquisition of the testimonies and the new documentation produced by the parties involved. In the third and final step, the British antitrust will hold hearings with Microsoft and Activision Blizzard to expose them the results of the investigation and, consequently, theoutcome on the feasibility of this agreement.
Meanwhile, the debate continues online, fueled by Jez Corden’s reflections on what happens if the Activision-Microsoft deal is blown.
