We told you about it a few days ago in a previous news, Amazon Prime Video a conclu an agreement with Sony and Warner to broadcast some of their content in France as a priority. Should Netflix and Disney+ fear it?
Amazon has priority over certain films and series from Sony and Warner
Spider-Man : No Way Home, Uncharted, Peacemaker … Autant de films and series that will be broadcast first on Prime Video in France (after Canal +, for films). After this agreement reached with Sony and with Warner Bros. DiscoveryAmazon Prime Video strikes a blow on the French market, with Blockbusters and hit series. Especially now that we know that Warner won’t launch HBO Max and Discovery+ until 2024 in France. Prime will therefore benefit from the priority on the contents of the firm for at least another two years.
Amazon Prime Video expands its catalog
As a reminder, Amazon already had bought the famous MGM studio, in the spring of 2021 for $8.5 billion. This acquisition already provided Prime with a hell of a catalog, with ultra-popular franchises like James Bond, Rocky, Stargate, The Pink Pantheretc… If Disney+ has very popular franchises too, Netflix may have a harder time keeping up with Amazon and Disney in terms of redemptions and acquisitions of copyrights. Netflix bases its model more on the content productionand even if they have great success in this area especially on the side of the series, it will be harder to keep up with the side of the films.
Amazon catching up with the competition?
Until now, Netflix and Disney + were rather ahead in terms of content as well as in terms of ergonomics, facing Prime Video. If the platform is making some efforts to improve its interface, it is still clearly its weak point compared to its competitors. In contrast, in terms of content, Amazon is clearly catching up, more and more. We imagine that with its means, Amazon will be able to buy more and more franchises and production companies with their licenses. Let’s also not forget that Amazon is producing more and more in-house content, as recently The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series. With more than 4000 contents already on the platform available in France, and the futures acquisitions d’Amazonit would not be surprising to see the number of Prime Video subscribers inflate … and some of them may leave the competition!
