You might not know it, but Android Go Edition, the lite version of the Android mobile operating system, powers over 250 million active smartphones today. It’s certainly not much compared to the 3 billion devices running Android in the world, but it still matters.
Intended for entry-level phones with a more than modest technical sheet, Android Go Edition is entitled to a brand new version thanks to Android 13, Google announced in a blog post. And the least we can say is that significant new features have been added for the occasion.
Monnet Monnet Monnet
The main addition that we can mention is called Material You: Android Go was previously deprived of this design language introduced by Android 12 in 2021, this will no longer be the case. The Monnet mode, which applies the dominant colors of your wallpaper to the entire system, is obviously part of the game.
When it was released, this feature convinced you. In particular, it allows you to bring visual harmony to your user experience. More generally, Material You brings a rounder and more colorful aspect to the whole.

The Discover function will also be integrated into the next version of Android Go Edition. As a reminder, Discover is a news feed that displays content based on your search history.
Not before 2023
Finally, Android 13 (Go Edition) will support updates from the Google Play system. This changes the situation somewhat, since Android Go phones will be able to receive major software updates, without necessarily having to download a new major version of Android, underlines Google.
The Mountain View firm warns that the first Android 13 Go Edition phones will not be available before 2023.
