Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launch is fast approaching. This time there’s a special feature: Players who have pre-ordered the first-person shooter digitally can play the campaign in advance – and get into the missions early. The starting shot will be fired tonight: the campaign will be activated on all platforms at 7 p.m. Those who pre-order the digital version can already start the preloads for the Modern Warfare 2 campaign. So you shovel the files necessary to play in advance on your hard drive.
Continuing today at 1 p.m., you can start pre-loading the rest of the game on PS4 and PS5. The files have been fully available on Xbox since yesterday. PC gamers will have to wait a little longer. On Steam and Battle.net, you won’t nudge the pre-loads until October 26, at 7 p.m. “Depending on your platform, download the rest of Modern Warfare 2 before or during campaign early access to ensure multiplayer and Special Ops modes are playable at launch,” the developers write.

Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward have announced some details about the post-launch content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Multiplayer mode unlock, Preseason
If you have downloaded Modern Warfare 2 in advance, you can jump into multiplayer mode just in time for the launch of the first-person shooter. The exact start time is also available: The full game will be activated in Germany on October 28 at 6 a.m. The pre-season in Modern Warfare 2 will then take place until November 15th. “Advance through the military ranks to unlock all base gear items, complete each weapon platform’s progression tree to unlock all weapons and attachments, and progress through each special ops kit’s tier system prior to Season 1,” writes Infinity Ward. When the game launches, the rewards you received during the beta or campaign early access will also be activated.
Start of Season 1 with new multiplayer map
The first season of Modern Warfare 2 starts on November 16th. The new content includes a “fan-favorite multiplayer map” and additional special unit missions. Warzone 2.0, the new version of the battle royale shooter in the Call of Duty universe, also goes live on the same day. One of the highlights is the new Map Al Mazrah. In addition to a “brand new experience” in DMZ, the updated Battle Pass system is also going live. The latter brings two free weapons directly into play. If you grab the Vault Edition, you can then activate your tier skips and other Battle Pass unlocks.
Season 1 Reloaded starts on December 14th. With an update, the Special Forces will receive the first episode of Raids for Operators that you can join. “Additionally, another legendary multiplayer map is coming to Modern Warfare 2 as Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 receives its first post-launch update,” adds Infinity Ward.
