As part of last night’s Silent Hill Transmission broadcast, Konami announced a remake of Silent Hill 2 from the Bloober Team studio, and users have already begun to compare its trailer with footage from the 2001 game. Video comparisons from the Spanish blogger ElAnalistaDeBits and the Maltese channel PythonSelkan attracted the most attention.
Although trailer the remake scored a lot more likes than dislikes (at the time of writing the news – 4.7 thousand against 299), many users express concerns. In particular, the players dissatisfied James’ new appearance and consider him more like Murphy from Silent Hill: Downpour. They also pointed out that active facial expressions and excessive emotionality contradict the essence of the character: in the original, the hero was “dead inside” and “detached from reality”.
Others note that it is impossible to recreate the atmosphere of the original (at least without the participation of the previous voice actors) and suspect that the developers are not going to focus on this component, and someone does not like the new camera from behind their shoulders. “Forgive me for being pessimistic, but I haven’t forgotten what they did with Metal Gear.” wrote Thelonicus Gaming.
“They literally destroyed everything that made up the aesthetics of the game,” — thinks Joaquin Badman. A user who agreed with him noted that the unique visual component and atmosphere of the original were closely related to the technical limitations of the PlayStation 2.
In addition, users noticed changes in details that did not benefit the overall atmosphere. For example, the observation deck on the shores of Toluca Lake has prominent diagonal dividing lines, making James’ car appear neater parked than in the original, where he just dumps it in the middle of the parking lot.
However, most players were impressed by the trailer. In the comments on YouTube, the remake is called promising, and the video itself is beyond expectations. Also, fans enthusiastically accepted the announcement of Silent Hill f, the script of which is being worked on by Ryukishi07, the author of the series of visual novels When Cicadas Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni).
This month, ElAnalistaDeBits posted a video comparison of the Dead Space remake with the original.
AT PlayStation Blog creative director and lead designer of Bloober Team Mateusz Lenart (Mateusz Lenart) said that due to the camera moving over the shoulder of the hero, the developers will change the combat system, screen savers and “techniques for pumping tension.” In addition, he drew attention to the modern motion capture system, which will allow you to convey “a wide range of emotions even before the character begins to speak.”
The remake does not even have an approximate release date, but it is known that it will be a one-year PlayStation 5 console exclusive. On the Sony console, the release will take place simultaneously with the PC (Steam). Declared text translation into Russian. The system requirements are already known.
