In celebration of the release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for PC, the developers at Naughty Dog talked about their future plans. While the studio sees the PC conversions of its in-house titles as an important step forward, the PlayStation 5 continues to be viewed as the developers’ primary platform.
Following the PlayStation 5 release earlier this year, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection also released for PC this week.
Just like on the PS5, technically revised versions of the campaigns from “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” and “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy” are included. In anticipation of the release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC, Naughty Dog’s Vice President Christian Gyrling spoke to PlayStation Blog about his studio’s future, describing the PC conversions as a “decisive and transformative” step.
According to Gyrling, thanks to the PC versions, Naughty Dog will be able to make its own titles accessible to a larger number of players and noticeably expand its own target group.
The focus is still on the PS5
That’s not to say the PlayStation 5 might be neglected, though. On the contrary: As Gyrling explained, Naughty Dog continues to see the PS5 as the primary platform. This is also noticeable in the fact that the PC implementations are not created by Naughty Dog itself, but are realized in cooperation with other studios. For example, the PC version of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection emerged from a partnership with Iron Galaxy.
“As Naughty Dog has gained a better understanding of hybrid and home office development over the past few years, developing on PC gives our team flexibility in how, when and where our titles are built. Much like players can enjoy the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC across a wide range of PC builds, our developers can work on PC iterations across different hardware from home or the office,” added Gyrling.
