It’s finally official: The survival horror game Silent Hill 2 is actually getting a remake. Konami announced the new edition of the horror classic as part of yesterday’s “Silent Hill Transmission”. The development studio Bloober Team, which has already proven its skills in the horror genre with games like Layers of Fear, is taking on the work on this title. The Silent Hill 2 Remake wasn’t the only announcement at Transmission, though. Three more new titles await fans of the franchise: Silent Hill Townfall, Silent Hill: Ascension and Silent Hill f.
Silent Hill returns
It’s been a few years since Silent Hill fans can expect a new title. Most recently, Hideo Kojima tried to bring the series back to life. However, not much remains of those plans other than his infamous playable demo PT. Now the franchise is returning with full force and has a lot to offer old hands and newcomers in a wide variety of versions.

In addition to Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill: Ascension was teased during the broadcast. It seems to be some kind of live event that fans of the series can attend. It is therefore less to be understood as a classic video game and more as an interactive streaming experience.
The project includes filmmaker JJ Abrams (Star Trek, Star Wars) with his own studio Bad Robot Games, dead-by-daylight studio Behavior Interactive, streaming software specialist Genvid, and dj2 Entertainment, which focuses on specializing in the adaptation of games for television.
Ascension looks set to be a full-scale series of live stream events where viewers will decide how everything plays out. The idea was inspired by streamers who played Silent Hill live and spooked along with their viewers. The event is scheduled to come in 2023.
Cryptic: Silent Hill Townfall
In addition to the live event Ascension, the Silent Hill series also gets new video games. Silent Hill: Townfall will be created in collaboration with developer studio No Code (Observation, Stories Untold) and publisher Annapurna Interactive (Stray, Outer Wilds). The teaser trailer shown during Transmission was very cryptic, but could be an indication that Townfall is going to be very atmospheric, which is certainly welcome for Silent Hill titles.
Horror in Japan mit Silent Hill f
The series gets some variety with the newly announced title Silent Hill f. This will be set in Japan in the 1960s. Authors responsible for the project include Ryukishi07, a writer known for his visual crime and horror novels. Again, there is no information on gameplay, release date or platforms yet.
