According to Digital Chat Station, Oppo is working on an all-new flip-folding smartphone. And according to the first leaked characteristics, it could clearly overshadow the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 on several specific criteria.
The category of foldable smartphones is the new technological playground for manufacturers. A pioneer in this field, Samsung has managed to impose a new form factor which is meeting with success, with 10 million units sold and distributed as follows: 7 million Flip, the clamshell format, against 3 million Fold, the hybrid form.
It is clear that the Galaxy Z Flip attract consumers, with their practicality and their more affordable price – around 1000 euros – than a Galaxy Z Fold. Nevertheless, it can necessarily give ideas to others. And to Oppo in particular, which is said to be developing its own Flip.
This color noise comes straight to us from Digital Chat Station (via Xataca), who even think they’ve gotten their hands on some features of this phone. The Oppo clamshell could be entitled to an internal screen of 6.8 inches, associated with a small external panel of 3.26 inches. “Small” is actually a big word for the Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch screen.
Autonomy that inspires
In the idea, Oppo would like to bring a completely different user experience with a relatively large external screen, which could offer new possibilities. The other remarkable point concerns the battery: it would be 4300 mAh. Again, that would be a huge departure from the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s 3700 mAh.
As a reminder, the Z Flip 3’s battery life was a disaster, although Samsung caught up somewhat with the next generation. But in theory, and with a well-optimized system, Oppo’s clamshell could offer much more generous autonomy. To the detriment, perhaps, of its thickness, since the battery is the element taking up the most space.
A very promising first foldable
Digital Chat Station continues with the phone’s photo configuration: a 32-megapixel selfie sensor, coupled with a 50-megapixel wide-angle and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle. Again, Oppo would pull out the muscles against Samsung, which opted for a 10-megapixel front sensor and a dual 12-megapixel rear sensor.
In any case, these hypotheses should be welcomed with a minimum of tweezers, even if it is difficult to hide a certain enthusiasm at the idea that Oppo is releasing a foldable clamshell. Because the Oppo Find N, formalized in 2021 and taken over by Frandroid at the start of 2022, had clearly convinced us (no visible folds, compact format) – unfortunately, it was not released in France.
Inevitably, seeing Oppo develop a foldable clamshell makes us want and makes our mouths water: perhaps we should expect a presentation of the product in December 2022, a full year after the introduction of the Find NOT.
