After several rumors and leaks, it is now official. Silent Hill 2 is getting a remake and it’s going to be a console exclusive on one platform.
The long guesswork has finally come to an end. The remake of the horror classic Silent Hill 2 has now been officially announced more than 20 years after the release of the original. And some of the rumors were right: Bloober Team, known for The Medium and Layers of Fear and in collaboration with Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito, is actually responsible for the development. The latter was already involved as an art director on the original.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is set to release for PC via Steam and as a 12-month time-exclusive for PlayStation 5. A specific date has not yet been named.
Technically, you can probably expect a lot, because Silent Hill 2 Remake is produced on the basis of Unreal Engine 5 and uses its Lumen and Nanite technologies, among other things. As an innovation, you can expect an over-the-shoulder camera to achieve greater immersion. In this context, revisions to the combat system are also to be expected. Furthermore, the remake naturally supports the 3D audio of the PS5, as well as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller. Thanks to the fast SSD, there should be no loading screens in the game.
The remake resumes main protagonist James Sunderland and his search for clues in the eponymous town after he receives a mysterious letter from his wife Mary – who is long dead. You will encounter spooky monsters and other manifestations of James’ consciousness.
There’s even one for the game Steam page, but the same does not give more information. Apart from the system requirements, although it is not yet possible to say whether the information is concrete or just a placeholder. The minimum requirement is an Intel i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X with 12 GB RAM, an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080. An Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X along with 16 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon 6800XT are recommended.
