As can be seen from the surveys by GfK Chart-Track and GSD, the British console market grew noticeably in September 2022. The PlayStation 5 and Electronic Arts’ football simulation “FIFA 22” secured the top of the charts.
In cooperation with GamesIndustry.biz, GfK Chart-Track and GSD presented various interesting figures for the UK sales month of September 2022, in which console sales rose by 41 percent.
The bottom line was that around 176,000 consoles walked over British shop counters last month. The PlayStation 5 increased by nine percent compared to August 2022 and was also the best-selling platform in September 2022. However, only with a small lead over the Xbox Series X/S, which benefited from subsequent deliveries according to the GfK Chart-Track. Compared to the previous month, sales of the Xbox Series X/S in the UK increased by 104 percent.
In third place was the Switch in September 2022, which, according to market researchers, benefited above all from the release of “Splatoon 3” and increased by 44 percent compared to August 2022. Despite the increase in sales over the past month, UK console sales for the year to date are 35.5 per cent down on the same period last year.
DualSense controllers continue to be the best-selling accessory
Sales of accessories increased by 34 percent compared to August 2022. Around 735,000 such products were sold in the UK in September 2022. Even though the DualSense controller is still the best-selling accessory, the “Xbox Wireless Shock Blue” showed the greatest growth with a plus of 93 percent compared to the previous month.
Finally, it was announced that UK players purchased 3.17 million games last month – up 83 per cent from August 2022. About 2.2 million of the games were sold digitally. The retail or retail versions accounted for 957,000 games sold.
