Minister of Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit spoke about holding sporting events in Ukraine during the war.
“The main idea that we have had since the beginning of the war is the preservation of sports. Of course, from the very beginning it was difficult to do. But already in the spring, I spoke with the Prime Minister so that our athletes and national teams take part in tournaments and hold training camps. It is important that today we have kept all our sports teams.
We have winners of world championships, European championships, world champions. Since the beginning of the war, our athletes have won more than two thousand medals. Sport is a positive, bringing mood to people. The football championship has started in the country, now the basketball championship of Ukraine will begin. I would like there to be more attention to sports after our victory.”
“Spectators? The main issue is safety. Will there be time and opportunity for everyone to go to the shelter during the alarm? The answer is obvious. Therefore, we have decided that safety is the main thing. If, God forbid, there is an arrival, then we will close all the championships.
“Will the postponement of the match between Dynamo and Metalist affect the start of the season in the Super League? There was anxiety this morning. Yesterday there were three alarms. We will reschedule matches, wait until the alarm ends and start the matches. During the alarm we will be in the shelter. If the anxiety persists for a long time, we will reschedule the matches for the next day,” Gutzeit said.
