October 20th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. by Matthias Brückle – The Dracthyr and the dragon riding are two of the big features of WoW: Dragonflight. Now the developers have cloaked that there is significantly more synergy between the race and the new mount system – learned dragon riding bonuses now also strengthen the sailing of the Dracthyr!
While WoW: Dragonflight relies on various innovations, the Dracthyr people (and their exclusive class Rufer) and the special dragon riding (a new type of flying mounts) are prominent features of the expansion. It was already clear that the scaly Dracthyr could glide through the air in a similar way to Dragon Riding mounts – but now comes something that some players only dreamed of: The Dragon Riding talent tree will also improve the flights of the Dracthyr.

Blizzard listens to the community
In an official Blue Post, the developers explain that they have taken the feedback regarding the flight ability “Sail” (English Soar) to heart. The community had emphasized that using the Dracthyr skill never felt worthwhile, especially after unlocking improved dragon riding skills. “While we don’t want them to feel identical, we do want to bring them closer together. We want players to feel that sailing the Dragon Isles is a powerful option that embodies the fantasy of flying as a Dracthyr.
Because of this, some talents in the Dragon Riding tree will affect Sailing as well:
“Drake and Rider Training” is now called “Take to the Skies” and increases the maximum speed of sails to match that of Dragon Islands dragons Sailing cooldown by 40 seconds. With all of these traits, the cooldown is only a two minute cooldown. It can even go down to a one minute cooldown when paired with the Dracthyr passive skill Familiar Skies. Winds of the Isles also affects Sailing once it’s unlocked.
