On Sunday in Kyiv, Dynamo Kiev will meet with Vorskla Poltava in the next round of the Ukrainian Premier League. This season, both teams are not showing the game that their fans are counting on. In the standings, the people of Kiev are two points ahead of the Poltava team.
The White-Blues are in an unusual place for themselves in the middle of the standings. The Kyivans lost their previous match of the national championship to Shakhtar Donetsk with a score of 1:3, having received another blow to their champion ambitions from their principal rival. After that, Mircea Lucescu’s team was supposed to meet with Metalist Kharkiv, but this match added to the list of rescheduled confrontations. Matches in Kyiv were banned due to the increased shelling of Russia, but then the UPL again received permission to hold matches of the Ukrainian championship in the capital of Ukraine. So, Dynamo will play against Vorskla at their home arena.
Ilya Zabarny, who received a red card in the meeting with the Pitmen, will not be able to help his team in the upcoming match. Therefore, most likely, Popov will come out in the center of the defense of the Kyiv club. Having made a fatal mistake in the away match against Rennes, the defender fell out of favor with the White-Blues coaching staff. Popov was replaced at the end of the match with the Red-Blacks, and he watched the actions of his partners in the match against Rukh from the bench. The center-back did not make it into the starting lineup for the meeting with Shakhtar either, having been forced to appear on the pitch after Zabarny was sent off.
But the answer to the question of who we will see at the forefront of the Dynamo attack is now unlikely to be found. In the match against Shakhtar, Vanat acted in this position, who played quite decently and even scored a scoring shot. Perhaps, Besedin will get another chance, from whom the fans of the “white-blue” are still waiting in vain for goals scored. Or maybe we will finally be able to appreciate the skill of Diallo: the young Senegalese is still waiting for the opportunity to make his debut for the Kiev team.
The leadership of the Poltava club pinned great hopes on the arrival of the coaching team of Viktor Skrypnyk, but so far the Poltava team has shown inexpressive results. Having lost to the Swedish AIK in the Conference League qualification, Vorskla started the new Ukrainian championship with three defeats. In the next three matches, the Poltava team scored seven points, and it seemed that things were starting to improve for Skrypnyk’s team. But then the “green-whites” suffered two more defeats.
The last of them, from Rukh, can even be called sensational. The first half of this match was interrupted by an air raid alarm, and after the resumption of the game, the Lviv team scored a goal, which eventually brought them victory. The match against Rukh became a milestone for the Green-and-Whites midfielder Artem Chelyadin, who came on as a substitute in the second half and played his 50th game in the Premier League.
Let’s note one more noteworthy moment: in the current championship Poltava scored one goal more than Dynamo.
Dynamo has a significant advantage in the history of confrontations with Vorskla. The teams played 57 face-to-face duels: 42 times the victory was celebrated by the people of Kiev, 5 meetings were won by the “green-whites”, in 10 matches a draw was recorded. In the previous match between Dynamo and Vorskla, which took place in November last year, Poltava managed to beat a more status opponent. Then Rangel and Olivier Till scored two goals against Lucescu’s team, to which Dynamo managed to respond with only one effective blow, which Vitinho struck in the fifth stoppage minute.
The best sniper of Dynamo in matches with Vorskla is Vitaliy Buyalsky, who scored six goals against the Poltava club. Interestingly, Buyalsky made another effective blow in the duel with the Poltava team while playing for Hoverla.
Forecast for confrontation
Both teams are in search of their game and intend to replenish their points baggage. At the same time, both Poltava and Dynamo are experiencing difficulties in the attacking line, which affects the number of goals scored. Therefore, it is quite possible that the fate of the upcoming meeting will be decided by one precise blow. And let’s assume that the home team will inflict it.
“Dynamo”: Nescheret, Dubinchak, Popov, Sirota, Tymchik, Sidorchuk, Shepelev, Buyalsky, Kabaev, Vanat, Tsygankov
