Overall, the Indian market shrank by 6% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year. In numbers, 44.6 million units were sold, while last year recorded 47.5 million in the same period.
Xiaomi continues to lead the market with 9.2 million units sold, occupying 21% of the market. However, this number represents a drop of 3% when we analyze 2021, when the Chinese manufacturer recorded the sale of 11.2 million cell phones and occupied 24% of the market.
Overall, almost all brands in the ranking face a drop in sales and market presence when compared to 2021. The highlight of the numbers is OPPO, the only one that recorded growth.
In 2021, the Chinese manufacturer sold 6.2 million units in the period and occupied 13% of the market. This year, it registered 6.2 million cell phones sold and rose 3% in the market in the third quarter.
Canalys analyst Sanyam Chaurasia believes that the drops were caused by low demand in the entry-level cellphone market, while the intermediate and flagship segment recorded good numbers thanks to good promotions, mainly from OPPO.
