This week, Netflix shines with two new premieres that feature protagonists like Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke and Zoe Saldanha. But HBO Max, Amazon Prime and Apple TV also have good news.
These are the five series and movies that premiere this week and you can’t miss them!
1. The school for good and evil – Netflix
Based on a fantasy novel, The school for good and evil follows the story of two friends who are kidnapped to be taken to (exactly) the school of good and evil.
Once at school, the two friends learn to control all their powers, and they start to walk very different paths, one for the good side and the other for a darker side…
2. The Peripheral – Amazon Prime
Conceived by the creative minds of Westworld, The Peripheral tells the story of one who starts testing a new Virtual Reality headset that takes her into a very seductive new reality.
As expected, the simulation is not limited to being an uncompromising thrill ride, and the protagonist quickly finds herself involved in a dangerous conspiracy and facing consequences that could change the world.
3. Raymond and Ray – Apple TV
Starring Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor, this tragic-comedy shows the relationship of two brothers that the death of their father brings together again, after a separation of some years.
Now, as adults, they relive the memories of a less happy childhood and the troubled relationship they had with their father, through the fulfillment of their parent’s after-death wishes. Although the synopsis is more tragic, the film has good comedy moments.
4. From Scratch – Netflix
Starring Zoe Saldanha, this eight-episode series is based on Tembi Locke’s memoir of the same name.
It tells the story of an artist who falls in love with a chef in Italy and embarks on a “transformative journey of love, loss, resilience and hope that crosses cultures and continents,” writes Netflix in its synopsis.
5. The fastest woman on earth – HBO Max
The fastest woman on earth is a documentary that was filmed over seven years and follows famous television personality Jessi Combs.
This is the story of Jessi’s fight for the title of “fastest woman on earth”, in a male scenario full of obstacles. In a mixture of inspiration, joy and tragedy, in this documentary the viewers are transported to the cockpit, celebrating with the protagonist the victories and watching the too high price she paid for her success.
