Killing NVIDIA A100 prevented.
A couple of months ago, the Chinese company Biren Technology tried by all means to emphasize that the BR100 accelerators it developed could compete with NVIDIA A100 in terms of performance. When new US sanctions began to smell in early October, according to Bloomberg, Biren representatives decided to bet on the exact opposite thesis. They claimed that their development could not compete with the NVIDIA A100, and therefore did not fall under the new US sanctions.

In any case, according to Bloomberg, this did not prevent TSMC from refusing to further produce 7nm accelerators for Biren Technology. The Taiwanese company is not yet ready to claim that they are subject to new export restrictions, but it was decided to interrupt cooperation with Biren “just in case.” Whether it will be restored in the future is still difficult to predict.
