The video game is definitely doing very well, thank you for it. While the previous simultaneous connection figures on Steam were far from ridiculous, we learn that this weekend was one of all records for the famous on-demand gaming platform. Driven by the success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (in early access) and FIFA 23, Steam has just exploded the number of players connected simultaneously!
Yesterday, Sunday, October 23, the famous on-demand games platform, Steam, broke its previous records with a total of 30,012,957 users connected at the same time. Measured by the official graphs (SteamDB shows a slightly higher number with 30,032,005), this number is far from trivial. As reported by the PCgamer.com site, it is equivalent to the population of Ghana, the 48th most populous country in the world! The years go by and Steam continues to unite an ever-increasing number of users. Since 2020 and the pandemic, this growth has been exponential and far surpasses what we were used to a few years ago. To measure the impact of this growth, it must be said that Steam took 14 years to reach 15 million users and only… 5 years to reach 30 million users.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and FIFA 23 at the head of the gondola
Still according to the PCgamer.com site, Steam reached 25 million users in January 2021, which is to say the rise of the platform. Of course, this record of 30,012,957 simultaneous users must be related to the early access of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and the release, a few weeks ago, of FIFA 23. Respectively on the first and third step of the podium, the two titles carry Steam and we are not immune to a future record very soon. You might be wondering which game is in second place? This is again a football game, but in the field of management with the very unifying Football Manager 2023. The World Cup is getting closer, the Ballon d’Or has just been awarded to Karim Benzema and so it’s a safe bet that FIFA 23 and Football Manager 2023 won’t be moving anytime soon.
